The Port Charlotte shopping mall is 30 min drive but there is a great shopping outlet at Ellenton 1 hr drive. City shopping can be found at Fort Myers and Sarasota.
The port of Punta Gorda is 40min drive and from here there are fishing excursions and island boat excursions available.

From Fort Myers you can also take a fast boat to Key West which takes 3hrs and return the same day or stay overnight and return the following day.

The Myakka River State park is 1 hr drive where alligators and Florida wild life can be seen at close quarters.
